Timothy “Max” Carey, Esq.

Timothy “Max” Carey specializes in litigation, trial work and negotiation, principally focusing on matters concerning business disputes, shareholder fights, breach of fiduciary duty as well as commercial contracts. He is highly skilled in these facets of litigation, and he is on various trial teams within the firm, contributing to successful outcomes in a wide variety of lawsuits.

Some of Max’s recent successful outcomes include:

➢ Key member of a trial team that secured a $5 million Jury Verdict for breach of contract in Oakland County Business Court.
➢ Key member of litigation team in the largest law firm break up in recent Michigan history – according to Crain’s.
➢ Negotiated terms of separation between members of family-owned car dealership.
➢ Chief negotiator in partnership separation involving multiple businesses in the food and the tobacco industries.
➢ Key member of a negotiation team securing confidential settlement in federal court lawsuit between manager and Grammy-nominated recording artist.

Max is a member of the Privately Held Businesses Forum, a committee of the State Bar of Michigan. In 2026, he was a moderator of a panel on business litigation practice at the 8th Annual State Bar of Michigan Business Law Symposium, and he was part of the production team for a presentation on mediation and negotiation at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the State Bar of Michigan.

Max earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School, where he served as an Article Editor for the Journal of Law in Society and was awarded a full tuition academic merit scholarship. While in law school, he gained valuable experience working with the Appeals and Post-Conviction Advocacy Clinic.

Max attended Michigan State University for his undergraduate studies, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations.
